Import from thebench

thebench is the bench-side app: it records who is on the field, the substitutions, the suspensions and the match actions, and exports a cliply.sideline file. Importing it into a video adds all of that beside your analysis: your clips are not changed, and what comes from thebench can be hidden or removed in one go.

Import the file

From a video in the workbench, open the … (More) menu → Import from thebench. A panel opens on the right with four steps:

1. File: pick the JSON you exported from thebench (Export → JSON). You'll see the match and how many players, substitutions and actions it carries.

2. Sync: thebench brings where each period starts in the video. If your video starts elsewhere, correct it with the ±1 s and ±10 s buttons; everything from thebench shifts with it.

3. Mapping: each thebench button (goal, shot, card…) maps to an event in your catalog or creates a new one, and each player in the file maps to one in your roster (by shirt number and name) or is created. You also choose whether to set starters and formation, call-ups and the final score on the video.

   cliply remembers which player you matched each thebench player to. The next match from the same roster shows them as Linked, even if they are not in the video's squad. When the shirt number or the name differ, the difference is shown; cliply's number only changes if you tap Use thebench's #.

   To stop relying on names, export the roster from cliply: on the team, Export → thebench roster (JSON), and import it in thebench. Every player carries their cliply id, and the match file hands it back, so the match is direct.

4. Matches: thebench goals that fall inside a goal clip you already tagged can be combined: the scorer is added to your clip instead of creating a second event.

What you see afterwards

• thebench tab in the side panel: every player who was on the field, ordered by minutes. Tap one or more to focus them.
• Timeline: a strip with substitutions (⇅) and cards, and a row of its own for each focused player with their time on the field. On hover, the timeline card says which substitution or card happened and who was on the field at that second.
• Matrix (⌥W): a row per focused player and one for events. Clips and events that happened while the focused players were on the field show at full strength; the rest recede. Focusing does not filter: every clip stays.
• Minutes over plays: from the thebench tab's menu, a panel with each player's time on the field on the match clock, the clips in each stretch and the moments the team was a player short. Tap a bar or a mark to jump there.
• Stats: a minutes table per player and per period.
• Event log: thebench events carry their own icon and can be filtered by source.
• Over the video, in View mode: a score bug with the match clock in the corner and plates for each goal, card and substitution. In the thebench tab's menu, On video picks which show (Score, Goals, Cards, Subs); they show in fullscreen too.

The season

With matches imported, the team page adds a Season · thebench table (called up, played, starts, minutes, suspensions and sendings-off per player), and the player's Stats tab shows their totals and the match-by-match detail. Both can be narrowed to one season: the one on each video's project.

Switch off or remove

• Switch off: Hide thebench on this video in the thebench tab's menu (or Show thebench in the video's … menu) hides everything from thebench on that video without deleting anything.
• Remove: Remove thebench data in the tab's menu (or Remove thebench data in the … menu) deletes the imported events and time on the field. Your clips, lineup, call-ups and score stay.
• Import again replaces the previous import and keeps your combine choices.
