Tactics board

Draw formations, animate plays, and capture diagrams over a fullscreen field.

On this page

The tactics board is a fullscreen field where you can drag player markers into formation, draw over the play, and capture the result — separate from telestrating on the video itself.

Opening the tactics board

Open a video in the workbench and switch to View mode — the tactics-board button only appears in View, not in Analyze. Click the tactics-board icon in the toolbar (tooltip: "Tactics board") to open it as a fullscreen overlay.

What's on the board

  • Player markers — draggable tokens for two teams, each with its own color; add, remove, duplicate, or renumber a token, and hide a whole team without removing its markers.
  • Ball marker — a show/hide toggle drops a ball marker onto the field when you need it.
  • Formation presets — apply a starting shape for the sport in one click instead of placing every marker by hand.
  • Sport-specific field backgrounds — the board defaults to your video's sport but can be switched to any other sport's field from the board's settings.
  • Free-draw and laser-pointer tools — annotate the board directly, or point live during a walkthrough without leaving marks behind.
  • Undo move / redo move — steps back and forward through moves of the pieces: players, sprites and the ball. Drawing has its own undo, on the draw toolbar (Undo stroke, Z) — the two histories are deliberately separate, so undoing a player you moved never erases the arrow you drew.

Keyboard

Every board control is reachable from the keyboard, and the board's own shortcut list is behind the keyboard icon in the toolbar.

Tab moves between the pieces on the pitch; the piece you select takes focus, so the arrow keys act on it straight away.

Rubber-band selection — dragging a rectangle over the pitch to grab several pieces at once — has no keyboard equivalent and needs a pointer.

Screenshot capture

The camera icon in the toolbar captures the current board — field, markers, and drawings — to a downloadable PNG, ready to drop into a report or a briefing deck.

Saved animations (beta)

From a video's Draws rail tab, an Animations log lets you build a multi-scene, tweened animation linked to a specific clip: set up the board, capture a scene, adjust the board for what happens next, capture another scene, and play the transition between them.

Saved animations live in a shared Animations library — its own page in the sidebar — where they're organized into folders, can be duplicated, and reused across different clips and collections.

Saved animations are experimental

The multi-scene animation log and library sit behind an internal rollout flag, so they may not be enabled for every organization yet — reach out to cliply support if you'd like this turned on for your org. The board itself (markers, formations, drawing, and screenshot capture) has no such gating and is available to everyone.
