Smart lists
Saved filters that re-run live, built from a phrase or by hand.

A smart list is a saved filter, not a fixed set of clips. Every time you open it, cliply re-runs the filter against your current clips — as you tag new footage or edit existing clips, the list updates itself. That's the difference from a collection: a collection is a hand-curated, fixed reel; a smart list is a live query.
Smart lists are available on Team plans and up, and roll out per organization — contact support to ask about turning it on for yours.
Creating a smart list
From Smart lists in the sidebar (under the Database group), select New smart list and give it a name, an optional description, and an avatar (or leave it — you'll get an auto-generated colored placeholder).
Describe it in a phrase
Type what you're looking for in plain language — something like "goals against Valley Rangers, season 2026" — and select Interpret. cliply builds the filter for you, matching opponent or rival names against your video titles.
Most phrases resolve on-device with rules, with no AI call at all. When a phrase is too ambiguous for the rules, cliply falls back to AI to interpret it. Either way, a small badge on the result tells you which path was used — Interpreted without AI or Interpreted with AI — so you always know how your filter was built.
If a phrase can't be interpreted, you'll see a message asking you to rephrase it — or you can switch to the manual builder below.
Build it by hand
Add filters one field at a time: tag, reaction, variant, status, zone, player, team, season, project, video, clip name, or date. Each field you add becomes its own group; groups are combined with AND, while the values you pick within one group are combined with OR. For example, a tag group with "Goal" and "Assist" selected matches clips with either one, and adding a second group for a team narrows that down to just that team's clips.
This is also the fallback for anything the phrase interpreter can't figure out — start from a phrase, then adjust the groups it produced by hand.
Live preview and results
While you're building a filter, a live preview shows the clips that currently match. Once saved, the smart list's page shows those same results with the same information and per-clip actions you get in any clip list — watch, edit, export, delete — plus multi-select and a bulk action bar (add the selection to a collection, watch, export, or delete).
Sync and last synced
A smart list's membership is always live — you don't need to do anything for new matching clips to show up next time you open it. The Sync button re-runs the filter on demand and stamps a last synced time, shown on the list and its detail page, so you know exactly how fresh the results are.
Save as collection
A smart list's results aren't shareable on their own — you share a fixed reel, not a live filter. Select Save as collection to snapshot the current matches into a new, ordinary collection that you can reorder, share, and manage like any other. Each time you save, it creates a new collection — saving doesn't update a previous one.
Collections made from a smart list
A collection created this way shows where it came from: a badge and a Smart list column link back to the source list. From there, you can Sync with smart list at any time to replace the collection's clips with the filter's current matches.
This re-sync is manual and one-way — the collection stays a stable, shareable snapshot until you choose to refresh it. Re-syncing discards any manual changes you made to that collection (reordering, clips you added or removed), so use it when you want the collection to catch up with the filter, not when you've hand-tuned the reel.
