Voice notes on clips

Record a spoken note on a clip, play it back on tap, and choose whether share links carry it or it stays inside your organization.

On this page

A voice note is a short spoken take on a clip — the quick "watch his first step here" you would say over a coach's shoulder, kept on the clip. It sits under the clip's text notes, plays on a tap, and can travel with a share link or stay inside your organization.

Rolling out gradually

Voice notes roll out per organization — contact support to ask about turning them on for yours. Until then the notes panel shows no recorder.

Record a note

Select a clip

In the workbench, pick the clip. Its notes panel shows the text notes and, under them, the voice notes.

Press the mic

Select Record a voice note. The first time, your browser asks for microphone access. A pulsing dot, the elapsed time and a level meter confirm it is live.

Stop to save

Select Stop and the note uploads and appears in the list. The X cancels and throws the take away.

A note runs up to 2 minutes — the recording stops by itself at the cap — and can be at most 6 MB. A press shorter than half a second is treated as a slip and not saved. If you move to another clip while recording, the take is finished and lands on the clip it started on.

If the browser can't record audio, the panel says so; if you refused the microphone, allow it in the browser's site settings and try again.

Play a note

Tap the play button on a row. Each row shows the length and, for notes from teammates, the author's name. While a note sounds:

  • the match audio drops to a low level under the voice, and comes back when the note ends (a player you muted stays muted);
  • the clip is held on its last frame instead of moving on to the next one, so the picture the speaker is talking about stays up.

A note keeps playing if the selection moves, and stops when you leave its clip or tap it again.

Internal or shareable

Each note has a switch next to it, and one beside the mic for the next take:

IconMeaning
ShareShareable — a share link can carry it
LockInternal: your organization sees it, never a share link

You can flip it at any time; the audio itself never changes. An internal note never reaches a share link, whatever the link's settings.

On a share link, shareable notes appear when the link shows clip notes (the Share notes switch — always on for a collaborative link; see Share links). Viewers see "N voice notes · this clip" on the clip and can play them; in a reel, a clip's notes play over it in order as it starts. The audio is fetched through the link itself, so a link that doesn't show notes can't be used to reach one.

Storage

Voice notes are audio files stored beside the project's videos. They count toward your plan's storage, like a video does, and are not tied to the Cloud feature. When storage is full, a new note is refused. Deleting a note — or the clip it belongs to — removes the file.

Watch mode, offline and presentations

  • Watch mode plays the voice notes on a clip; recording happens in the full workbench.
  • Offline, voice notes are not part of a downloaded copy: they come back when you are online. See Offline review.
  • Presentations have their own slide narration, recorded the same way. See Presentations.

Limits

  • 2 minutes and 6 MB per note.
  • Formats are whatever your browser records: WebM or Ogg (Opus) on most browsers, MP4 (AAC) on Safari.
  • Notes attach to a clip, not to a moment inside it.
