Antagonist tags
Pair two tags that are the same play seen from each team, so one clip reads both ways.
On this page
Can one tag mean two things — your turnover and the rival's recovery — without tagging twice? Yes. Pair the two tags as antagonists: you tag the play once, and cliply can read it from either team's side.
A pair is two catalog tags that are the same play seen from each team: "Goal" and "Goal conceded", or "Turnover" and "Recovery". The clip stores a single tag. The pair is only a way of reading it, so your clip totals never double.
Each tag has at most one antagonist; picking a new one replaces the old. Pairs belong to your organization and only link tags of the same sport.
Set up a pair
- Open the deck builder and go to the Catalog tab.
- Open a tag's row menu and choose Antagonist.
- In the dialog "Antagonist of "X"", pick the tag in Mirror tag. Choose No antagonist set or Remove pairing to undo it.
Paired tags show a badge like "↔ Goal conceded". When you create a new tag, cliply may ask "Also create "X" as its antagonist?" — choose Create antagonist to make both at once.
Most sports come with the common pairs already set — in hockey, for example, Goal ↔ Goal conceded, Shot ↔ Save, Penalty corner ↔ Penalty corner against and Turnover ↔ Recovery. Check the ↔ badges in the Catalog to see which pairs your organization has, and add or change any of them there. Pairs can only be created on the web; the desktop app uses them but can't author them.
Head to head in the stats
Open Stats in the workspace. The Head to head section shows one row per pair, with your team on the left and the rival on the right. Each side counts the clips tagged with that side's tag, so a clip never counts on both sides, and the numbers are the same whatever lens is on.
Your side is the pair's tag that sits in the deck's top row; the other is the rival side. For example, with Recovery in your top row paired with Turnover: tag your recoveries and your turnovers, and the row reads your recoveries against the rival's recoveries. Pairs with no clips on either side are hidden. See Video analytics for the rest of the panel.
Antagonist mode
If your organization has at least one pair, the workspace header shows a swords toggle next to the matchup. Turn it on ("Show each clip as its antagonist (opposite perspective)") and every paired clip is relabeled and recolored as its pair in the clip log. The Clip matrix (⌥W) recounts from the rival's side, so your turnovers read as rival recoveries. Turn it off with "Hide antagonist view".
- The Head to head section of the stats does not flip: it always shows both sides.
- It isn't available in Analyze mode ("Antagonist view is unavailable in analyze mode"); switch to view mode.
- The choice is remembered per browser.
Elsewhere in cliply
- Clip search — in the dashboard clips list, the tag filter has an Include antagonist toggle. When on, filtering by tag A also returns clips tagged with A's pair. It's off by default.
- Collections — a clip's row menu has Show as antagonist, and Show as normal to go back. The workspace toggle also works inside collections. See Collections and playlists.
- Share links — each link has an Antagonist view switch. Viewers see each clip relabeled and recolored as its pair, with zones mirrored and an Opponent's perspective banner, independent of your own toggle. A collection link mirrors the items set to antagonist, or all of them if the switch is on. The public stats report is not mirrored. See Share links.
- XML export — Export antagonist (rival view) mirrors every paired clip to the opponent's perspective, so the file reads as the rival's analysis. See Exports.
Troubleshooting
I don't see the toggle.
- Your organization has no pairs yet. Create one from the Catalog.
- You're in Analyze mode. Switch to view mode.
- The tag isn't paired. Check for the ↔ badge in the Catalog.
