Working offline
Use cliply without a connection and sync later.
On this page
The cliply desktop app can tag, clip, and export local video files without an internet connection. Your work is stored in a local database on your machine. When you are back online, you can push a project to your cloud workspace to share it with teammates or view it in the web app.
What works offline
| Feature | Offline | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Local video playback | Yes | File must be on your local drive |
| Buttons deck and live tagging | Yes | Tags and clips are saved locally |
| Clip library, flags, notes | Yes | All stored in local SQLite — edit or delete your own notes; team admins can moderate any teammate's note |
| Players and qualifier tags | Yes | Assign roster players and qualifier tags to clips and events |
| Clip status | Yes | |
| Match details | Yes | Title, date, score, teams |
| Match events | Yes | Add, edit, delete |
| Telestration | Yes | Edit, retime, rename, or delete any drawing — including ones made on the web |
| Playlists | Yes | Create, rename, reorder, delete, and add or remove clips |
| Collections | Yes | Create collections and curate their clips |
| Add to deck | Yes | Add a catalog tag or event to the project's deck from a clip's or event's menu |
| Clip export (video files) | Yes | Uses locally managed FFmpeg |
| XML import / export | Yes | Codes that don't match your catalog open a reconcile step — map each to an existing tag or skip it (the clip is kept with its raw code). Creating brand-new catalog tags, and keeping another tool's extra labels as variant dimensions, both need a connection |
| Cloud upload / sync | No | Requires internet |
| Share links | No | Requires internet. With a connection the desktop app offers the full builder — clip subsets, recipients, passcode, expiry, attendance — and manages live links (pause, edit, revoke) |
| AI match analysis | Partly | Generating needs internet and a credit balance; the last report stays readable offline |
| Voice tagging | No | Requires internet |
| Decks & catalog management | No | Requires internet |
| Composing presentations | No | Requires internet |
| YouTube source videos | No | Requires internet |
Offline requires Basic plan or above
The offline capture feature is available on the Basic, Pro, and Ultimate plans. The Free plan does not include offline mode.
How local storage works
Offline work is stored in a SQLite database in the app's data folder on your Mac. Each project you create or import on desktop has its own local record — separate from the cloud. Changes made offline stay local until you explicitly push them to the cloud.
Pushing a project to the cloud
When you have internet access and want to share your offline work with the rest of your team:
Connect to the internet
Make sure you are online and signed in to your cliply account in the desktop app.
Upload local video files
For each video in the project, the app uploads the file to your organization's cloud storage. This requires a Pro or Ultimate plan for cloud storage access.
Import the project
After the video files are uploaded, the app pushes the project data — videos, clips, tag types, events, and drawings — to your organization in the cloud. The import is idempotent: pushing the same project twice will not create duplicates.
Access from the web
Once pushed, the project and all its clips are visible in the cliply web app to all members of your organization.
Starting from a cloud project
You can also pull a project's tag configuration from the cloud before going offline:
- In the desktop app, choose New project from cloud.
- The app downloads the tag types and event types from your cloud project.
- Add your local video and start tagging.
This saves you from re-entering your tag deck before each match. The local project is not synced automatically — you push it manually when ready.
cliply does not attempt to merge offline changes automatically. Pushing a project creates new records in the cloud — it does not overwrite existing clips from the same match.
