cliply lets a rink hockey staff tag the match in the browser, review direct free hits, shots and power play or penalty kill stretches grouped by type, and send the clips to the squad by link. It has a deck set up for the sport and you can start for free.

What a rink hockey staff reviews and how it maps to tags

In a fast sport with few stoppages, what gets studied most is transitions and special situations. On your side the deck has "Attack", "Shot", "Goal", "Counter", "Direct free hit" and "Power play (5 on 4)". On the opponent side it has "Defense", "Recovery", "Save", "Turnover", "Direct free hit against", "Penalty kill (4 on 5)" and "Goal against".

Direct free hits are worked as set plays. "Direct free hit" collects every one you took, and "Direct free hit against" every one you defended, so you can see how the wall is set or what the opponent tries. Shots are qualified with variants such as "Forehand", "Backhand", "Lob", "Deflection" and "Rebound", and any clip can be marked "Successful" or "Unsuccessful".

Suspensions change the match, which is why they have their own tags: "Power play (5 on 4)" and "Penalty kill (4 on 5)" let you watch back to back how the team played a man up and how it held a man down. Between "Counter", "Recovery" and "Turnover" you see where possession changed and whether the transition ended in a shot.

Match events include half start and end, goal, penalty (5.4 m), team foul, blue card (2 min), red card, timeout, substitution and injury. They sit on the timeline, which helps place accumulated team fouls. See Events.

The deck is a starting point and it is editable: rename, add or remove tags, change shortcuts and set how many seconds each clip keeps. See Decks and catalog and Antagonist tags.

A match from start to finish

  1. Create a project and add the video: a YouTube or Vimeo link, a direct URL, or a file from your computer. See Upload videos.
  2. Tag with the keyboard or mouse, live or afterwards. See Create clips.
  3. Filter by tag to review, for example every direct free hit against.
  4. Draw on a frozen frame and build a collection for the team talk. See Drawing and telestration.
  5. Send a share link. Whoever receives it opens it in any browser, no account needed.

Live tagging works on every plan. If the arena has no signal, you can record an offline session and assign it to a project later.

Tactics board and presentations

The tactics board has a rink hockey court, with pieces for two teams and free drawing. It helps explain a direct free hit or how a team lines up on a power play. With presentations you combine clips, tactical animations and images in a single talk.

Which plan you need

Free allows one project and up to five videos. Solo, Team, Club and Enterprise add capacity. Current prices are on pricing and each plan is described in Plans and pricing.

When cliply isn't the right fit

  • If you need the full match uploaded to a server and kept there, that starts at the Club plan, or with the Cloud add-on on another plan. Otherwise the video stays on YouTube or Vimeo, or on your own device.
  • If you need automatic positional data for each player from the video, cliply does not generate it. Drawing markers follow a player within a clip, but they are for explaining the play, not measuring it.
  • If several people must tag the same video at the same time in the same workspace, that is not available yet.
  • If your club already uses another tool, you can import its XML files, the format most video analysis tools share, and decide later. See XML Inspector.

Try it with your own match

Open /try, paste a YouTube match link and tag it in the browser, no account needed. To compare tools, read How to choose sports video analysis software and Analyze a YouTube match. For other court sports, see handball or basketball, and for the grass game, field hockey.
