To choose sports video analysis software, check eight things in any tool: XML import and export, live tagging, sharing with players, offline use, number of users, where the video lives, price per team and how easy it is to learn. This guide explains each criterion and states plainly what cliply does today.

The criteria, one by one

1. XML compatibility. XML is the format most video analysis tools share. If your club has years of tagged matches, or an outside analyst sends you their coding, you need to import and export it. Test with a real file, not a promise.

2. Live tagging. Tagging during the match saves hours, but it needs fast keyboard shortcuts, a panel you can build to your sport, and no breakdown when the club's connection fails.

3. Sharing with players. If a player must create an account or install something, most will not. Check whether you can send a read-only link that opens on a phone.

4. Offline work. Many pitches have no signal. Check what works without internet: tagging, reviewing, or both.

5. Staff seats. Look at how many users a plan includes and whether it charges per seat. A staff of three or four changes the math.

6. Where the video lives. If the tool forces you to upload every match, you pay for storage and upload time. If it accepts links or local files, it depends on your workflow. Also ask what happens to your video if you cancel.

7. Price per team. Compare per organization and per year, not the entry offer. Check what is left out of the base plan.

8. AI and learning curve. AI helps when it reads your tagging, but it does not replace a good tag panel. On the learning curve, test the tool with a real match before deciding; a free tier or an account-free trial beats any demo.

How cliply measures up on each criterion

CriterionWhy it mattersWhat cliply does today
XML import and exportKeep matches already tagged and work with other analystsImports and exports XML, with an inspector to fix codes and times. Also opens other tagging formats and CSV. The XML library starts at the Solo plan. See XML Inspector

Sharing with playersThe squad actually watches the materialRead-only links with no account, on every plan, with clips, notes and drawings. See Share links
Offline usePitches with no signalOffline tagging in the browser and review of saved copies, from the Solo plan. You link the video from your own device. See Offline review
Staff usersCost and collaborationFlat price per organization: Free and Solo, one member; Team, up to three; Club, up to ten; Enterprise, custom. No per-seat charge. Several people tagging the same video at once: not yet

How to compare without bias

  • Take the same 20-minute match to each tool and time how long it takes to get five clips ready to share.
  • Export XML from your current tool and try opening it in the new one.
  • Ask what happens to your data and clips if you stop paying.
  • Read the base plan, not the most expensive one: that is what you actually get.

When cliply isn't the right fit

  • You need to upload every match to a server without paying for the Club plan or the Cloud add-on.
  • You want several people tagging the same video at once in the same workspace.
  • You need automatic positional data for the whole squad from video (tracking). Drawing markers follow a player within a clip, but they do not produce that data.
  • You need an installed program that works without a browser.
  • Your sport needs a panel cliply does not cover: there are ready panels for football, futsal, basketball, handball, volleyball, rugby, field hockey, indoor hockey, rink hockey, water polo, tennis and padel, and an editable generic panel for the rest.
